New death threats have been
issued against the founder of anti-mafia organization Libera,
Father Luigi Ciotti, the priest said on Wednesday.
Ciotti said the threats are coming not only through mass
media but also other sources, calling this "a bit of a
particular moment, not to be underestimated".
"But they could even kill [me]; by now a network of
wonderful people has been created that will fight back," Ciotti
said.
Ciotti said there are "those who don't want to see certain
laws passed", referring to anti-corruption and anti-money
laundering bills currently being revised in the Senate and
House.
"The mafia has come back stronger in this moment of great
economic crisis, so we need to equip ourselves," Ciotti said.
